"Often, when I’m working, I find myself engaged in a conversation with the painting.
This 'dialogue' helps me with making choices and there are hundreds of choices to
be made in the making of a painting. It’s important to be a good listener. As in any
conversation, anything other than truth results in failure.

My process, which evolved from making a series of monoprints, relies on gravity,
alchemy and chance. Paint and pigments are dripped and poured into a freshly applied
layer of varnish to create the imagery. Time also plays a role as the media continues
to shift and grow until the varnish sets. I may return to the studio hours later only to find the exquisite oval form I placed in the center of the painting is now somewhere on the bottom and no longer an oval. This occurrence could even be an improvement!

The results of this activity can be provocative, mysterious…even to me…and at the
same time, quite beautiful. These are the qualities I find most compelling about
making art and what inspire me to keep plugging along on this path of discovery."
