BLOOMERS & BUTTERFLIES – VISUAL CELEBRATIONS BY HOLLY GORDON

June 17 - July 31, 2026

Long Island photographer Holly Gordon has been inspired by nature all of her life. This virtual exhibition is on the heels of a recent exhibition that the artist had at the Bayard Arboretum in Great River, Long Island in 2024. Several galleries in the Arboretum’s mansion featured examples of several bodies of works by the artist. Some of the most colorful and vibrant works on display were like those exhibited here. In addition, we have added works that were inspired by the beauty of the environments Gordon has extensively traveled.

Butterflies and Flora are often interpreted as a symbol of renewal and life. This exhibition celebrates life’s annual renewal at its best.

Holly Gordon is a Bay Shore, Long Island–based photographer who creates fine art and documentary photography. In recent years, she has become widely recognized for pioneering photo-liminalism, a process that achieves a painterly quality in photography previously unexplored.

Gordon’s creative origins date back to film photography in the 1960s and the aura and aromas of the traditional wet darkroom. While many viewers assume her work is painting, it is in fact photography in transition.

Gordon is an artist deeply committed to engaging with important social issues while blazing new creative trails. Her ability to clearly articulate her creative process and inspire others makes her an indispensable advocate for the arts. She is on the board of the participatory photography 501-c3 Seeing for Ourselves and the Islip Arts Council.

Holly Gordon has exhibited extensively throughout the United States. Her work has been shown at Denise Bibro Fine Art (New York, NY), Molloy University Kellenberg Hall Gallery (Rockville Centre, NY), fotofoto gallery (Huntington, NY), Greenwich Audubon Center Gallery (Greenwich, CT), Heckscher Museum of Art (Huntington, NY), Long Island Museum (Stony Brook, NY), Islip Art Museum (East Islip, NY), American Museum of Natural History (New York, NY), and Southampton Arts Center (Southampton, NY), including an exhibition curated by Colin Goldberg.

Her photographs have been published in Guide to Historic Artists’ Homes & Studios by Valerie A. Balint, 28mm.org: Offline, the Galapagos.org annual report, Kodak’s professional website, The New York Times, The Long Islander, Newsday, Daily News, Long Island Pulse, TBR Newsmedia, and Shutterbug Magazine. Insightful interviews with Gordon have aired on Long Island PBS Channel 21, Fios TV, and on radio with Bonnie Grice.

Her photographs are included in the permanent collections of Stony Brook Hospital (NY), NYU Langone (NYC), Melville Corporate Plaza (NY), and Molloy University (NY).
