Paula Elliott: Elusive Objects
Denise Bibro Fine Art is pleased to announce a virtual solo exhibition of recent works by Paula Elliott, Elusive Objects, running from February 3 – March 10, 2022.
Drawn from her imagination, the artist’s works on paper depict mysterious objects. Her compositions of shapes and forms acquire monumental qualities through the interplay of the occupied and negative space—capturing their intrinsic beauty.
Elliott’s art is pristine, nuanced, and transcends beyond the obvious. Elegant and skillful employment of line and color creates atmosphere and dimension. The viewer is led to perceive the seemingly mundane as sublime and interpret the shapes and colors as mystical.
This exhibition features new work alongside earlier compositions. According to the artist:
In my new works on paper, pastel has become the principal medium combined with charcoal, pencil and paint. This pastel ground offers a corresponding function to the watercolor effects in my canvases, creating an atmospheric space- a fluid, open and indeterminate field of play. However, in these present images, a new dimensional framework shapes the borders; providing a measure by which the relationships between various markers or dynamic forces within the open space are traceable. It is a threshold space guided by signs though of uncertain outcomes – a mystery awaiting arrival.
Elliott holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, Menomonie, WI, and Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. The artist has received grants and fellowships from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Ragdale Foundation, Lake Forrest, IL, and the Noyes Foundation, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. Her works are in various collections such as Saks Fifth Avenue, East Rutherford, NJ, IBM Corporation, Sterling Forest, NY, Citibank, L.A. Los Angeles, CA, and Chase Bank, New York, NY. She has recently exhibited at Furlong Gallery, University of Wisconsin-Stout, Menomonie WI and Hampden Gallery, University of Massachusetts Amherst, Amherst, MA. This is Elliott’s third solo exhibition at Denise Bibro Fine Art, and she has exhibited extensively in New York and throughout the United States.
