Andre Eamiello‘s watercolors are inspired by nature. On the surface of these dynamic compositions, colors bleed into each other, evoking patterns and shapes found in organic structures. Eamiello’s painting process is meticulously controlled at every stage; he tests the boundaries of his own capabilities employing complex layering, blending, and adding, “earth ephemera” to explore the relationship between organic and artificial.
Meditative landscapes of Rachel Kohn are created by layering watercolor with wax and aqua resin, adding texture and dimension to each work. The complex, sculptural quality of her work elicits not only a visual but also a tactile response. In her own words, Kohn offers a “space for the viewer to explore cycles of growth and decay”, where these seemingly opposite powers exist in harmony rather than conflict.
Iliyan Ivanov’s mixed media works explore the polarity of art and materialism by positioning contemporary houses within 17th century Flemish still-life, that are painted and drawn over by the artist’s own hand. The juxtaposition of modern and classic, commercial imagery and artistic manipulation prompts the viewer to ruminate on the questions of private and public, desire for material comfort and the consequence of greed, and the complex relationship between financial and artistic worlds.
Margaret McLellan’s abstract works are elegant and timeless in their simplicity. She compellingly employs a monochromatic color scheme, paying great attention to the combinations of white, black, and various shades of grey and the way they interact on a canvas. Through her artworks she explores the themes of time and erosion by adding various rich textures that enhance her pieces, adding visual depth and dynamism.
Tom Sime experiments with wax to create organic biomorphic compositions. The materials and techniques he employs require extensive knowledge and familiarity with the medium, enabling him to achieve translucent surfaces with nuanced color.
Inspired by water and light, Toni Ann Serratelli‘s abstracted landscapes capture the transient quality of natural phenomena and their intricate interactions. Her long-lasting interest in Byzantine icons fuels her artistic practice in which she explores the ability of art to provide a cathartic and healing experience to the viewer.
